Sony released a ton of Playstation 2 information yesterday. They also dropped the gauntlet with Sega and Nintendo in a rather harsh press release. The system as seen from demo's is supposedly as powerful as the reports have stated, and a Japanese release date of Winter 1999 (yes, this year) has been announced. The system will also be backwards compatible with the current Playstation and it will improve the existing software. Furthermore, all existing peripherals that work with the current Playstation will work be compatible with the new system, including memory cards (I gotta give props to Sony for that one).
